The other day someone said to me "Tumblr is like blogging for lazy people" and I thought wow, thats so true and thats why I love using it. and the way it displays images. and you find folks like this which is great:

keep_calm.jpg

"We're an online store for geeks and gamers with a strong focus on products that embody a high-tech lifestyle and passion for retro nostalgia. We play lots of video games, watch science fiction, read comic books, roll 20-sided dice, bring bits and bytes to life with thousands of lines of code, and spend most of our time basking in the radiation output from large, flat-screen LCD monitors. We may not have the best social skills or see the light of day very often, but rest assured, when the zombie apocalypse does come -- you want to roll with us."

Art School

The title says it all. so true and funny. but i guess if you discovered all of this before leaving school the magic of the discovery might be lost.

Nikki McClure

nikki-rely-front.jpg

Someone gave us a small book called The Great Chicken Escape by Nikki McClure for Christmas and it was one of the most brilliant, simple, visual stories i have seen in years. Her work is beautiful and can be purchased at BuyOlympia.com.

From her site: Nikki McClure of Olympia, Washington is known for her painstakingly intricate and beautiful paper cuts. Armed with an X-acto knife, she cuts out her images from a single sheet of paper and creates a bold language that translates the complex poetry of motherhood, nature, and activism into a simple and endearing picture.

Wee Gallery

weegalery.jpg

I came across the Wee Gallery booth and Dave Pinto while working a booth right across the aisle at the Kids & Baby Expo in Vegas last week. Dave and his wife have created amazing gifts for newborns based on his wifes artwork. Our kids have already used the coloring book, little tattoos and flashcards and love them- thanks Dave!

This years poster in all its Hello Kitty glory. This is one of my favorite fonts by Tomi Haaparanta, Suomi Script. You can purchase the poster for $20 at Bootleg.

Childrens Book Illustrators

Always the most inspiring for myself are childrens books, uninhibited beautiful illustration and artwork not muddled by logos. I ran across these illustrators reading scores of library books to Henry, our 3 year old son.

Asaf Hanuka

Jon Keegan

You have to dig deep to find good work on the web. Jon Keegans work is a good example of amazing work combined with good content on the site. these sketchbook pages are great insight into the artists process.

Funny, especially if you happen to appreciate wookies. I came across these images doing research for a new client in the apparel business. some brilliant designs on the Redbubble site where " you can share your art, photography and design with the world".

Andree Wallin

Super fantastic sci-fi digital art by Andree Wallin.

Drew Struzan

I don't own an iPhone. I'm not that hip. If I could own one I probably would but out here in the sticks of MT it is not an available service yet. At any rate, I have been avoiding publishing back to the this blog (abduzeedo) partially because of the plethora of  slick photoshoppy iPhone screen saver tutorials but after this interview about the legendary star wars poster illustrator I couldn't resist any more. It's very inspirational for any aspiring illustrator.

Mail Me Art

A project started by the founder of the Little Chimp Society. It displays works by artists from around the world sent in by mail. This is another entry included in our GD Books section of the blog, an additional site dedicated exclusively to the review of design books.

These are so simple, funny and brilliant. While researching graphic novels I came across this group of images from francophone comic creator Obomsawin for the animated film Here & There. A description of one of Obosawins books on amazon reads "In a minimalist style like (but even simpler than)".

Some kind of genius. this is a great site. its not easy to create a promotional site that is interesting for multiple parties to navigate and offers good content. The sketchbook gallery is always a nice touch on an artists site because you can see directly into the heart of their work.

Putumayo Cover Art

drmland.jpg
Recent inspiration for a video we are illustrating. "Putumayo's CD covers feature the distinctive art of Nicola Heindl, whose colorful, folkloric style represents one of Putumayo's goals: to connect the traditional to the contemporary. By combining appealing music and visuals with creative retail marketing, Putumayo has developed a unique brand identity - a rarity in today's artist-based music industry."

Nicola has painted more than 100 colorful album covers for Putumayo World Music.

2009 Dirtbag Ball Ski Poster

| No TrackBacks

dirtbag09_sm

The 2009 Dirtbag Ball poster is available for purchase online at bootlegenterrpise.com. It is 11 x 16 and printed on a digital press. The font, Quadaptor, is provided by Ray Larabie of typodermic.com. Thanks again Ray for another amazing, adaptable font.

This poster has multiple meanings. If you are a Brigder Bowl skiir you can appreciate the Change given the expansion of the ski area that people have been waiting for for years. If you are not, you may appreciate it as a solid knockoff of Shepard Fairey's now famous Obama poster.
